“SRAMA” means burden and “ASRAMA” is a place which relieves one from ‘SRAMA’. Ego is the burden which is born out of their progeny, education, power and wealth. Asramam is the place which liberates one from these imposed bondages and provides of provides feeling of equality. This is what Bhagawad Ramanujacharya stood for.

Asramam is a place where people with different backgrounds come together and live in harmony forgetting their social status. For example, king Janaka and poor bramhins studied together under sage Yajnavalka. At no point king Janaka felt that he belonged to a royal race and mingled with everyone without any reservations. Another example in Mahabharat is of Krushna and Kuchela living together in the gurukulam even though Krushna was a prince while Kuchela was from a poor family. This friendship did not end even after their education.

Asramams are like a mother’s womb giving re-birth to a person transforming him into a ‘human being’. Nowadays people are losing sight of values in the quest of accumulation of wealth. In the process they not only lose wealth but also end up ignoring their values. In this dire situtaion, Asramams mold people inculcating them with values and the wealth automatically follows. The asramam environment provides the residents qualities such as, equality, humanity by supporting each other and compassion. This concept of equality was believed and preached by Bhagavad Ramanuja. And thus He established asramams for all the people and currently HH Sri Sri Sri Chinnajeeyar Swamiji is managing 15 asramams around the world. Thus HH is called Abinava Bhagavad Ramanuja following and preaching the concepts of equality.
