The vagaries of the mind tend to create havoc, but there is a way out. Consider the flame of an oil lamp that is being tossed to and fro by strong air drafts. If the lamp is removed, there will be darkness, and it is impossible to stop the air drafts. What then is to be done if the flame is to glow steadily? Bring a glass chimney and put it over the flame. Now no matter how strong the air blows, the flame will be steady. Similarly, let a man always feel the divine presence in his heart and then, no matter how trying the circumstances may be, the light of love will always shine radiantly in his heart. Tremendous power is associated with prayer. It brings about a flood of spiritual energy, gives concentration, and increases will power. Prayer purifies the mind like nothing else does.
