About Varija Asramam

Veda Adhyayana Research Institute of Jeeyar Academy, known as Varija Asramam, was established by HH Sri Chinna Jeeyar Swamiji in 2003. It stands on a cliff overlooking the Bay of Bengal at a distance of about 75 meters from the seashore. The picturesque view of the long beach, the glistening sand, gently waving palm trees, the sounds of waves crashing on the shore and the breathtaking sunsets provide a calm, relaxing atmosphere to the residents and visitors of this asramam.

Varija has a Vedic school where Sukla Yajur Veda and Attharva Veda are taught to the kids. The school has 1 hatched classroom for teaching, a reading hall, a dining hall, kitchen, play ground and hostel. Along with Vedam, Agama and Smarttham are also taught here.

Nethra Vidyala, a school for the visually challenged, was established here in the year 2013. It provides primary education from LKG to 10th grades. Simhachalam temple is located on a hillock at a distance of 18 km from Vishakapatnam. It is a ancient temple and having inscriptions dating back to It is a known fact that Bhagawad Ramanuja visited this temple and did reformations in practices as per the scriptures. This temple is one of the four/five abhimana stthalas. The temple architecture combines the Orissan and Chalukyan features of temple construction, and it attracts scores of pilgrims from both Andhra Pradesh and Orissa.

The presiding deity in the temple is Varaha Lakshminarasimha, combining the iconographic features of Varaha and Narasimha. Lord is covered with sandal paste. It is only once a year, during the Chandana Visarjana on Akshaya Thruthiya day the sandal paste is removed, and the diety is seen by pilgrims.
It is said that Lord here is the Ugra form of Narasimha who killed the demon Hiranyakashipu. Lord Narasimha is so fierce that He is kept covered by sandal paste throughout the year. One can experience the heat and sweat when one enters the inner sanctum santorum.
Temple History: Kulottunga Chola I of Tamilnadu, made endowments to this temple, as evidenced from inscriptions dating back to the year 1087. The Vengi Chalukyas of Andhra Pradesh renovated the original shrine in the 11th century. Much of the structure as it stands to day is the result of renovation by Narasimha I, of the Eastern Ganga dynasty, in the second quarter of the 13th century CE.  Krishna Deva Raya, the Vijayanagar monarch visited this temple in the year 1516, as seen from inscriptions here. There are as many as 525 inscriptions in this temple.

One of the scenic and lush green tourist places in Andhra Pradesh is the Araku Valley. Its the least exploited scenic place by the commercial tourism in the country and presents us peacefulness in its abode. Araku Valley is the hill station at an average altitude of 911m and is located 114km away from the main city Visakhapatnam. Its an great spot for trekking.

The journey to this Araku valley by train or by bus from Visakhapatnam itself is awesome in its own essence, for, you get to see the plantations on the hills. There are 19 kinds of tribes in and around this forest encompassing the valley and mountains. And their work in coffee plantation has been recognised globally. There are so many tunnels and bridges, and the roads at this Eastern Ghat are very steep with many hairpin that makes this place even more beautiful enchanting.
The Govt. Silk Farms, Coffee Plantations, the Botanical Garden at Padmapuram are main attractions in this place. And a few kilometres away from the valley, there is one more famous tourist attraction called Borra Caves. These are deepest caves in the country present almost at an elevation of 705m in the Anantagiri Hill of the valley.

The most sacred and ancient shrine of Sri Kurmam, situated on the shores of Bay of Bengal, is the only swayambhu temple in the world where Lord Vishnu is worshipped in the form of Kurma avataara (tortoise – the second incarnation of the famous dasa avataaraas).

This ancient shrine is believed to be prior to the golden era of Sri Raama (raama raajyam).
Prominent references about this shrine are available in Kurma , Vishnu, Padma, Brahmaanda Puraanaas.
While the shrine is said to be more than a few million years old, outer structures were reconstructed many a time – after dilapidation of previous one , and the latest temple structure is more than 700 years old.
Legend says that during Kruta Yuga, A Pious King – Sweta Maharaja , observed fierce penance for many years.
Fulfilling his wish, lord Vishnu manifested (swayambhu) here in the form of Kurma Avataar. Lord Brahma, the creator of universe, himself officiated the celestial rituals and consecrated the shrine with Gopaala Yantra .
Sweta Pushkarini (the lake in front of the temple) is formed by the Sudarshan Chakra. Sri Mahaa Laxmi (the consort of lord vishnu), emanated from this lake and is adored in the name of Sri Kurma Naayaki, in varadaa mudra posture seated on Garuda Vaahana.
Sri kurmam shrine is believed to be the “Moksha Sthaanam” and the Sweta Pushkarini has cosmic cleansing powers. so, like in Varanasi, people perform the last rites of the deceased and drop (nimajjan) the Asthikaas (ashes) in it, which eventually metamorphose into Saalagraamaas (divine stones). even mother Ganga takes a bath in this lake every year on Maagha Shudha Chavithi (around february) to cleanse herself of all the sins left by the devotees .
The Prasaadam of the lord is said to possess mystic curative powers – after taking this prasaadam, the celestial dancer became devotional and renunciated desires., king Subhaanga won the war., a devotee by name Vaasu deva got leprosy cured.
Unlike many other temples ,the presiding deity here is facing west and hence there are two “Dwaja Stambhaas” (flag posts) in east and west directions. this is also the reason to permit devotees to enter the “Garbha Gruha” (sanctum sanctorum) for a closer darshan of the lord. this temple is known for its marvellous sculpture, particularly on the southern entrance, apart from the 108 pillars, where no single pillar is similar to the remaining.
The unique stones on the floor in the Pradakshina mandapam (circumambulatory passage) are said to infuse magnetic energy into the devotees through their feet. the ancient pictures on these walls, made from natural colours, resemble those in Ajanta – Ellora caves. “Kaasi Dwaram” – the under ground tunnel to Varanasi in the north eastern corner of the Pradakshina Mandapam is another magnificent piece of ancient engineering skills. the entry is closed now, since many wild animals and snakes are entering the temple.

The famous Sun God Temple situated in Arasavalli Village which is at a distance of about 1 K.M. east of Srikakulam Town District head quarters of the North Coastal Andhra Pradesh. It is one of the ancient and all among two sun God temples in our Country. According to Padmapuranam , Sage Kasyapa installed the Idol of Surya at Arasavalli for the Welfare of mankind . Therefore , the Surya is of Kasyapasa Gotra .

He is also termed as planetary King . According to the ‘ Sthalapuranam ‘ of the temple, Lord Devendra found this temple and installed the existing idol of the sun God commonly known as Lord suryanarayana Swamy Varu under the following circumstances.
